CTCCU - Cardiothoracic Critical Care Unit

So during my hallucinations I thought if I went to sleep I would die so my family have told me that I kept opening my eyes really wide, because I was nodding off in my hallucinations but trying so hard to stay awake even though they kept injecting me with sedative. Just shows you how powerful your brain is! Anyway, I eventually fell asleep and I actually woke up in a side room somewhere. The problem with ICU is that you get moved around a lot so each time I gained consciousness I was in a different room so you can't even tell if you're awake or hallucinating. But I woke up in a side room and Ciaran and my dad were there and they were telling me that they'd spent the night watching the football with a few beers and Ciaran stayed at my dad's which was really nice to hear! I don't remember much of the conversation as I was still pretty out of it but I remember being really confused that I'd been asleep for 2 weeks, and I'd been told certain things during cons...

ICU

While I was asleep my mum kept a diary which is great because I obviously had no idea what was going on while I was in ICU. It's also really nice that she's written about what was going on at home and in everyones lives because my mum moved house and Emily had her Hen Do while I was unconscious and I feel like I've missed so much! One thing my family weren't prepared for was that in ICU you're not on your own, you're with other patients that are also on tons of machinery and it was quite overwhelming for them. They kept me asleep for longer because my new heart dialated at first so they had to put a balloon pump in to help it out. This goes in through the main vein in your groin (similar to when you have a right heart catheter) and a pump helps your heart pump, it allows your heart to relax a bit allowing it to recover. Thankfully I don't remember them doing this or them taking it out, although I have the bruises all over my legs and groin to prove it! W...

The operation! By Ciaran

With Charlotte's memory being a bit shaky and then she was unconscious here's my version of events (Ciaran, Charlotte's boyfriend) My day started a little different than usual as I had planned to go into work a little later due to having anticipating I'd be staying back, so I was up at 9am, ran for a shower, got dressed, woke charlotte up in the process as usual and then gave her a squeeze and a kiss on the cheek before leaving at 9:30. Something valuable I've learned from the situation is that I should've pulled over on my drive to work to answer Charlotte's call as at 9:45am my phone was ringing in the car. Assuming it could wait I arrived at work for 10:00am sat down at my desk, remembered charlotte had called and rang her straight back, to which she answered with "they have a heart for me". I immediately picked my bag up and told work I had to go. I sat in my car and it hit me, I was shaking and according to my fitbit my HR had risen from ...

Getting the call!

This blog has taken a while! My memory of this day is very very ropey, the brain is a weird thing! But I've been filled in about what happened and it's come back to me slowly! I'm not going to go into detail about what date I got my transplant as I am very emotional about the donor and their family and it's not something I'm ready to think about or have people thinking that I have their donated organ. But a couple of weeks ago, Ciaran woke up as normal and left for work around 8am and I went back to sleep as I always do! At about 10am I had a phone call from a private number, I sort of rolled off the bed and thought 'ugh I'm going to have to answer this' and thank god I did! Now the details aren't great, for example I thought I spoke to Laura but apparently it was Helen that was my coordinator, but I spoke to someone on the phone haha. They asked how I was and said they potentially had a heart for me and could I get to the hospital, I said yes ...

Appearing on This Morning!

Hello internet friends! My goodness I'm behind with blogs, it's been a pretty crazy few weeks but people that have me on social media will know why! So early Thursday evening  22.02.18 I was sat watching TV around 4:30pm and a lady that I am in contact with at Press Association called and said that organ donation is being discussed in parliment on the Friday (the next day) and This Morning would love to interview me. I said yes without even thinking and thought God I'd better go and have a wash because I'd been having a PJama day! Haha. Within half an hour I'd had a phone call with Karen from the show and my train tickets, hotel and car details sent to me. Anyone that knows me knows that I'm a stressor but I also can't really do amything fast either because of my condition! So I called my mum to come and help pack and by 8pm we were on the train heading for London! What does one pack to appear on TV?? When you can't wear black or patterns... Also, du...
